Taylor Swim Teams Compete at the State Meet

Emma Sticklen defended her state title in the 100 back at the UIL State Swimming Championships on Saturday, February 15, 2020.  In addition, the Taylor girls team earned 4th place team recognition.  Highlights from the weekend include:

Girls 200 Medley Relay (Emma Sticklen (12), Amy Evans (11), Abbie Alvarez (11), and Kat Pashen (11)) – Silver Medal – They broke our school record by more than 2 seconds and earned All-American status.

Boys 200 Medley Relay (Tyler Kopp (12), Patrick Spillman (09), Andrew Alcott (12), and Andrew Lee (10)) – Bronze Medal – They broke our school record by a second and earned All-American status.

Girls 200 Freestyle – Taylor Schababerle  (11) – 9th Place – Interesting story, she originally did not make the State meet in this event (only 8 are called up and she was 9th). When we got to the pool for prelims, the meet officials asked if she could swim because someone had to scratch due to an illness. She then went on to get 14th in prelims and then 9th in finals. Her fastest time in this event this season is the 2nd fastest in school history.

Girls 200 IM – Abbie Alvarez  (11) – 9th Place. Her fastest time in this event this season is the 2nd fastest in school history.

Boys 200 IM – Tyler Kopp (12) – Silver Medal – He broke the school record by almost 3 seconds and is All-American.

Girls 100 Fly – Emma Sticklen (12) – Silver Medal – She will leave Taylor HS as the reigning State record holder in the 100 fly.

Girls 100 Fly – Amy Evans  (11) – 20th - Her fastest time in this event this season is the 5th fastest in school history (behind Emma’s 4 fastest).

Girls 500 Free – Taylor Schababerle (11) – 18th - Her fastest time in this event this season is the 5th fastest in school history.

Girls 500 Free – Roxana Nolte (11) – 20th - Her fastest time in this event this season is the 6th fastest in school history.

Boys 500 Free – Tyler Kopp (12) – Bronze Medal – He broke his own school record and earned All-American status.

Girls 100 Back – Emma Clark (11) – 7th Place - Her fastest time in this event this season is the 4th fastest in school history.

Girls 100 Breast – Abbie Alvarez (11) – 9th Place

Girls 100 Breast – Amy Evans (11) – 16th Place

Boys 100 Breast – Patrick Spillman  (09) – 10th Place - His fastest time in this event this season is the 5th fastest in school history.

Girls 400 Free Relay (Emma Sticklen (12), Taylor Schababerle (11), Natalia Casas (10), and Abbie Alvarez (11)) – 4th Place – New School Record and All-American

Boys 400 Free Relay (Nick Schmid (10), Tyler Kopp (12), Andrew Lee (10), and Andrew Alcott (12)) – 12th Place – All-American
